DESCRIPTION:CNAR – June UnLearn and Learn Session: Neurodiversity\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nJune 13\, 2024 at 12:00 – 1:30 pm ET\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				What is now known as the Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation (“CNAR”) was established in 2003 as a federation of national organizations whose provincial and territorial members are responsible for protecting the public through self-regulation. \nToday\, CNAR connects Canada’s provincial and national regulators\, licensing boards\, accrediting agencies\, examining bodies\, and government officials at all levels to discuss challenges\, share ideas and develop best practices related to a wide range of issues relevant to organizations engaged in the self-regulation of professions and occupations. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWendy McGuire\n\n\n\n\nIn this session\, Wendy McGuire (MSW\, RSW\, PhD)\, Owner of Scattergram Counselling and Consulting\, will support regulators’ learning journey on neurodiversity. Wendy is a former professor of social work\, a mom\, friend\, colleague\, teacher\, and therapist to neurodivergent people of all ages and walks of life. Unable to access effective services for her own neurodivergent family members and lacking a model for providing these services in her group therapy practice\, she combined her academic knowledge and lived experience to build a new framework for neurodiversity-affirming care called the A.C.C.E.P.T. Program™. \n\n\nWendy will provide regulators with neurodiversity-affirming knowledge and tools based on her practice model and professional experience. Attendees will learn about: \n\n\n\nkey concepts about neurodiversity;\nbarriers the neurodivergent population faces in accessing neurodiversity-affirming professional services;\nthe paradigm shift from the perception of neurodivergence as disorder to difference and why this matters;\ndifferences between neurotypical and neurodivergent operating systems (brains and nervous systems) and communication styles; and\nsteps that regulatory bodies can take to be neurodiversity-affirming\, accessible\, and inclusive. \n\n\n \n\nAttendees will have the opportunity to engage with Wendy throughout the session and during a Q&A. \n\n \n\nDate: June 13\, 2024Time: 12 pm ET – 1:30 pm ETVenue: Virtual (Zoom link to be provided to registrants closer to the event date)Pricing: FREE for members and Partners; $50/person for non-membersRegistration Link: https://portal.cnar-rcor.ca/events/event-registrations/

DESCRIPTION:CNDAT – Canadian Neurodiversity Affirming Therapists Facebook group\nFor Social Workers and Psychotherapists \nTOPIC: TBA\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				This is a Canadian community of therapists and affiliated social and healthcare providers (including Social Workers\, Psychologists\, Psychiatrists\, Speech Language Pathologists\, Occupational Therapists\, students\, etc) who serve the neurodiverse population or want to learn about neurodiversity in order to better serve their neurodivergent clients. \nAccording to the neurodiversity paradigm\, Autism and other forms of neurodivergence (e.g. Dyslexia\, ADHD\, Dyspraxia\, Dyscalculia\, Tourette’s\, etc) as naturally occurring variants in neurobiology.We are here\, as humans who occupy different locations on the neurotypical/atypical spectrum\, to network\, collaborate\, share referrals\, support each other\, explore treatment modalities\, and aid in bringing the neurodiversity paradigm to mainstream professions and the general public. \nWe share a commitment to educating neurotypical service providers about the harm that is done by imposing neurotypical norms and treatment modalities on neurodivergent people. In our work as/with neurodivergent individuals\, we seek to build self-awareness\, self-acceptance\, and skills for self-advocacy. \nN.B. We do not support Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) as a valid treatment for Autism.
